John Kelly Construction were appointed principal contractor on this scheme for Castle Green Homes for the construction of the roads and sewers, and then as sub-contractor for the groundworks package.
The project consisted of the construction of 650m of 5.5m wide adoptable standard highway to service 98 new dwellings in Dyserth, Denbighshire. The challenges faced on this site were high voltage overhead cables crossing the site in various directions, we had to work around these cables for a period of time, divert the cables and build a new sub-station. The site was sloping significantly, requiring us to build retaining walls of various sizes, some of these up to 5.5m high and 300m long. The site also required cut and fill earthworks of 40,000m3, given the depth of fill 30 of the properties required piling and the construction of testing of pile mats.
Co-ordination of this scheme between JKCS, the client and the overall end user at a very early stage ensured all parties were aware of their roles in the delivery of this scheme. Inspection dates were agreed, design amendments were submitted, approved, and implemented in a timely manner ensuring minimal disruption to the programme.
All quality documentation including as built and CCTV surveys were complete in a timely manner which enabled the adoption of the road by the local authority to take place in line with the client’s requirements.
Overall, a very successful infrastructure and groundworks scheme where the client and end user have a quality end product.
